Some old black and white photos submitted by Pete Logan of Hawks Chess Club

These relate to the time that Pete played for Todmorden Chess Club back in the early 70s....

Brian Bancroft (right) receives a rather splendid trophy for the Todmorden Club Championship from the mayor Mr Mills, watched by Pete Logan who was the joint winner with Brian.

Action from a friendly match between Todmorden and Lucas in Jan 1973; note that smoking was still permitted as a thinking aid in those days whilst players were mostly very smartly dressed in jackets and ties. The lady player (right front) is Peter Logan's late wife Janet.

More action from the same match. Pete Logan is centre right with Brian Bancroft on the next board to Pete's right. Leaning forward on the left to record his move is Lucas player P. Doughty playing Fred Leader.

Todmorden were never members of our League, though Lucas were members for many years in the 60s and 70s.
