It is with great sadness to report that Jack Whitfield passed away suddenly at home on 26th December 2009, aged 85 years.

Jack was a member of Blackburn Chess Club since 1979 and was Club President for the majority of the 80s and 90s.

Jack leaves behind his wife Margaret and 4 sons John, Thomas, Leslie and David.

His funeral service will be held at 2pm this Friday, 8th January 2010 at Pleasington Crematorium, Off Tower Road, Pleasington, Blackburn, BB2 5LE and a gathering is to be held at the Butlers Arms, Pleasington, Lancashire, BB2 5JH.

It would be lovely if chess players that knew Jack were able to attend.

I will remember my Grandad as a warm and welcoming man who loved his family and enjoyed the company of others.
